WHAT IS
Roof of the World Festival?
This will be an open-air festival in Khorog Central Park. We hope to have an audience of between 6000 and 7000 people with music from all over the Pamirs and surrounding region - (Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, China, North Pakistan and Afghanistan).
It will last for 3 day and will feature different events on one small "electric" stage interspersed with other smaller daytime acoustic "unplugged" workshops in different parts of the park (to take advantage of the unique mountain acoustics), and with other performances in traditional and alternative music, poetry, theatre and local crafts.
The event will also be promoted internationally throughout the region through the network of "backpacker" hostels, the usual tourism agencies and global music magazines and websites preceded by feature articles in all these media. The idea is to have a sizable 'number' of music fans from 'around' the World attending the festival and aid them in connecting with local Pamiri tourism agencies for further explorations in Central Asia.
The event will showcase eco-energy and related systems (solar cookers, solar-powered lamps etc.). Delicious traditional food, swimming in sacred river, trekking shepherds' paths and hiking to small sacred lakes will also be offered. The timing will be for the full moon so it shines on the valley and will be in the summer/ 16,17,18 July 2010.
